American ginseng is native to Montreal, Quebec, Canada and the eastern United States in North America. In 1975, American ginseng was successfully introduced to China. Now a large number of American ginseng has been planted in the northeast of China and in Weihai, Shandong Province. China has become the third largest producer of American ginseng in addition to Canada and the United States, and the annual production of fresh American ginseng has reached more than 10,000 tons. China is also a major importer of American ginseng in both regions, and for many years American ginseng has been one of the top ten imported varieties of Chinese medicinal materials. Our investigations revealed that there is no technical standard for the storage of American ginseng. Therefore, we should formulate the English version of "Technical Specification for Storage of American Ginseng" in order to facilitate international trade, technical exchange and cooperation and to improve the influence of our standard.。
